And are the fuel economies determined using ethanol-contaminated gasoline or pure gasoline?

Fuel economy of new vehicles at a new record high of 24.5 mpg? This seems like a very low mpg for new vehicles? I got 32mpg with my '79 Honda Civic CVCC, is the average too low or are people still driving too many gas guzzlers? Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

I'm curious whether Ford is going to prove their EPA claims on the new hybrids or whether they're going to be sending out prepaid VISA cards soon, too.

Not impressed, as someone here commented before, it's the real-life driving that really counts.

Going lighter is not the total answer. Weight is needed for safe driving. in winter.

And if we convert from auto components to lightweight carbon fiber, cars will reduce their weight up to 50 percent -- leading to highly improved fuel economy.

I think it's impossible to get the mileage that are posted on window stickers of new vehicles. I own a Hyundai and I get a prepaid Visa card from them for lying about mileage claims, and there new ratings our still impossible to get.

This is nuts, I had a 1988 Mercury Tracer that got about 38 mpg if I wasn't lead-footing it. That was 25 years ago!

That is still a joke. In the days of huge battle ships, like the Ford Ltd, the Chev Capreiece, the Lincoln Town car, The Chrysler Imperial, and the Olds Cutlass supreme, those big carburated boats, got 20 MPG and a little more.

It should be hitting a new record high constantly as older cars die and newer cars are produced. This is not news.

Supply and demand should still somewhat bear on gas prices. If demand is down and supply is greater than demand, that SHOULD work to lower prices (other factors work to raise them).

I don't believe anything that comes out of the state of M*ch*g*n. GO BUCKS!!!
However on a side note, increased MPG's result in less fuel usage, resulting in less demand. In turn, oil companies raise gas prices to make up for the reduced income. Win for the environment, loss for the consumer.

Of course its based on the inflated ratings - & not even that of the new US stds of testing either. Wonder if it still excluded the flex-fuel vehicles like in the past!!!
