As GM blasts Newt Gingrich, a man makes a Volt gun rack

USA Today -- General Motors is firing back today in the flap over GOP candidate Newt Gingrich's shots at its electric Chevrolet Volt. And so did a guy with a Volt, who creates his own gun rack for the extended-range electric car.

At issue is Newt's populist punch line to argue that the $39,995 Volt is a subsidized "Obama car" for wealthy buyers, while others struggle to buy a good used truck. "You can't put a gun rack in a Volt," Gingrich, the former speaker of the House seeking the Republican presidential nomination, is saying.

GM's comeback? GM spokesman Selim Bingol pens the comeback in the GM/BTW blog, asking why would you want a gun rack anyway?

Volt has a gasoline engine that kicks in when the battery goes low. It is sort of a "Honda generator" but it is already designed in to the car. Duh!

The truth hurts sometimes!" ----- Oh the blindness of hypocrisy. I know people with 1/3 that income, that drive $40,000 cars. Is it due to income? Is it due to preferences? Is it do to practicalities? Is it due to intelligence? I know a business owner who's business has nearly doubled over the last two years, who nearly did a million in gross sales last year. Guess what? He was looking to buy a Ford Fusion or Toyota Prius hybrid over a year ago, and would have considered a Volt had they been available when he was looking. Why? Because as a small business owner, he would rather see his money stay here in the states (Detroit), than go over seas (Japan, middle east). He ultimately did not buy one, because he couldn't find a Fusion reasonably close enough, and the Toyota dealers were asking huge premiums over sticker.

In an SUV or a pick-up, a gun rack actually is accessible and there for functional. However, I guess you could make the Volt work like an electric fence to protect the guns...
