New Year Welcomes Oddball State Laws

ABC News -- Many new, unusual state laws will take effect when the ball drops at midnight and millions of Americans ring in the New Year, including one that will limit the number of cats in a household.

Turns out 2013 will be unlucky for cat lovers in Wellington, Kan., where the city will be restricting the number of cats in a household to no more than four.

The law was put in place after 231 cats were sent to animal clinics in 2012, Wellington Police Chief Tracy Heath told the Wellington Daily News.

"Those are cats that go to the animal clinic, they're there for the allotted time and then, unfortunately, they are euthanized," Heath told the newspaper.

Another unusual law taking effect at midnight is Public Act 97-743 in Illinois. This law imposes a fine of $1,000 on anyone who pops a wheelie on

First, how does this affect gas prices?

Second, since we're not concerned with gas prices on this website, how about a law that lets us kick everyone out of the US House and Senate, make them hitchhike back home (if their home state wants them back) and start all over in DC?

Pigs in the wild are not all just released some of them just get out and eventually become wild feral hogs. Kentucky needs to pay a bounty of $5 or $10 on each feral hog then people might trap them collect the bounty, and sell the feral hot to a meat packing plant.

If we teach people right and wrong (and that they will answer to God), and instill common sense, most of these laws would be unnecessary.

I run into the same issue as the motorcyclists at red lights when I am riding my bicycle. I'm assuming this law is only applicable in Illinois?

And California Governor Moonbeam (Jerry Brown) will be celebrating his sales tax increase that was advertised and promised to help schools; then the day after the election he announces it will have to go into the state general fund to help the deficit. I bet he is celebrating like he did in the 70s (when he was governor last time) by inviting Linda Ronstadt up into the Governor's mansion and smoking something funny. The voters in this state seem to never learn from past mistakes........

"An when will be a one child per couple law like China?"

If you want that one passed, you'd better hurry. Once certain ethnic groups get the majority vote, it'll never pass.

Some of them really sound strange until you think about what's probably behind them. Then you wonder if there might be another, better way.

It was good to see a law in Tennessee several years ago allowing its citizens to eat road kill.

Did we really need a law to say it was ok to show proof of insurance on your smart phone? Waste of time and money

It isn't silly when it costs the taxpayers. These stupid laws can be annoying. Some politicians think they are God's gifts to humanity, or think they actually are God. They really need to go back to their hometowns, get a real job, and have a real life.
